Child care is a major force shaping our country’s economy and the well-being of families, yet our nation’s news media rarely feature it as a standalone beat. The Covid-19 pandemic led to increased coverage, but many have asked if it’s enough and what stories aren’t being told. As newsrooms shutter (more than 2000 and counting), and news deserts and pay walls proliferate, independent publishing is filling the gap and meeting the moment.


This conversation - co-sponsored by Early Learning Nation magazine and Better Life Lab at New America - will dive into how child care coverage has evolved, and the role of independent journalism in raising awareness and increasing understanding of the complexity of this issue.
